new pretties in the shop!

I've been making earrings for a few months; it started because I needed a gift
(my mom/sisters-in-law & I are trying to do all handmade gifts),
and I had so much fun with it, I just kept making them!

Now, I don't need so many pairs of earrings for myself,
and there are only so many birthdays in the year,
so I finally decided to sell the extra pairs I have around.

They're just $5 a pair, so you can afford a little treat for yourself. :)
They would also make a perfect little gift!

about a craft fair.

I've been putting this off all week, because I don't really know how
to write about it without rambling like a crazy person...
but I'm just going to jump in. Bear with me, okay?

Last Saturday was the craft fair I've been working towards for a couple months.
I put a LOT of work into this. It kept me busy, & I sewed my heart out.

{I didn't have a real camera with me, but at least I did get a few pictures}
{me with my table. the bunting on the tent was one of my favorite parts!}

My mind works best when I make a list,
so here's a few things I wanted to share.
  • make a list. {obviously. ;)} you don't want to get there & realize you forgot something important. make yourself a list, check it twice.
  • it doesn't hurt to be over-prepared. I tried to think of anything that could go wrong, anything I might need to make things go smoothly, tons of dollar bills for change-making, extra price signs just in case, pens, sunscreen, water, snacks.
  • be prepared for weather-related issues. I was able to borrow my tent from someone at church, and I am so grateful! the sun would have been brutal otherwise. bring sunscreen & plenty of water! we also had a few issues with wind; we actually taped down signs & displays so they wouldn't get blown away {I was very thankful I had brought regular tape + packing tape}.
  • get someone to help you. I am SO thankful that my sister agreed to come with me! I couldn't have done it without her. She helped getting the tent & the table set up, talking to customers, staying at the booth so I could walk around, getting lunch, etc, etc. {Thanks, Jessica!}
  • add some height to your display. my table was FAR from elaborate, and I actually did enjoy the simplicity of it. but, you don't want everything laid out on the table the same way...I used a plate stand, picture frame clip holder, baskets & a jewelry hanger to add some height & interest. I had one customer comment that she liked how everything had a specific place on the table. I think it made it less overwhelming to look through things.
  • model your product. this one ended up being super important! I wore one of my new ruffled headwraps, and I was SO glad I did - the ones being sold were laying out on the table, and a lot of people didn't know what they were. It was so much easier to be able to show them being worn instead of just trying to explain it. {I said, "they just tie on, super easy & comfortable!" about a million times. ;)} my sister wore a bloom pin, so we were each showing off some product.
  • don't be shy. smile! this is a big one for me. I am really shy, and I have a hard time talking to strangers. Plus, it can be kind of awkward, especially when an older lady doesn't want to take a business card because "I can make all this stuff myself." Oh. But, the longer I talked to people, the more confident I felt. I even made a new friend!
  • remind customers about business cards. this was super hard for me, too, but, if we wouldn't have invited people to take business cards, I don't think anyone would have picked one up! It's also a good idea to share things like newsletter sign-ups {failed at this one} and any special pricing/deals you have for the day.
  • don't get discouraged! there were definitely good parts of the craft fair. I got a LOT of compliments on my work, handed out quite a few business cards, got to interact with people, etc. But, as far as making a profit? Honestly, I didn't. And that made me really, really discouraged. As I sewed & prepared for the event, I had visions of selling a ton of my stuff, I made sure I had different price points so people would be likely to buy, & I even had some great deals going on. I just didn't sell that much. And that's hard. It's hard for me to admit it, hard to be positive about it. All that being said, I'm still glad that I was able to participate, if for nothing else than to learn.
I know that I'm not an expert on this,
but I hope that something in this post will be helpful for someone.
Thanks so much for sticking with me & reading through!

happy weekend, lovelies.

linking up with Alissa today because if we were having coffee,
this is definitely what I'd tell you about. :)

Hello, lovelies!

Just so you know, my little shop will be
going into vacation mode on October 1st.

I'll be busy with last minute wedding preparations,
and my goal is to enjoy this whole wedding experience. ;)
The craft fair I'm participating in is 2 weeks after the wedding,
so the shop won't re-open until sometime after that.

make sure you order before October 1st!

an update

{a small peek at all the prep work}

I've mentioned here & here that I'm supposed to
have a table at a craft fair in October {2 weeks after we get married!},
and that my goal was to finish all of my "inventory" prep by September 1st.

Well, it was a lot of work.
A LOT of work.
But, I got it done, and I got it done early!

I've been working like crazy
cutting, sewing, gluing, attaching, finishing, etc, etc, etc.
It is so nice to have it all done.
Now I can focus on all of the wedding projects that I still need to finish,
and not have to worry about prepping for the craft fair at the same time.
Whew.

The good news for you?
Whatever doesn't sell at the craft fair will be listed in the shop. ;)

*****

I noticed that the my little blog now has 402 followers!
I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you, new & old.
I so appreciate each and every one of you!

Happy Tuesday!
Hope your day is lovely...

{shop update} yo-yo bobbies

Finally, a little shop update!

Petunia Blooms is so dear to my heart,
and I know there is so much more I could be doing to make my shop better.
BUT, with the wedding fast approaching, some things have to be put on hold.
After we get married, I plan on doing a lot of work for Petunia Blooms,
which is so exciting to me. :)

Anyway, I finally was able to snap some photos and get these adorable yo-yo bobby pins listed!
I love them. They're super sweet & a perfect little pop of color for a plainer outfit.

See them all here.

{it's a SALE!}

My poor little shop has been a little neglected lately;
Between wedding preparations, everyday life, sewing for an upcoming craft fair...
{it also doesn't help that it's been raining - can't take product photos without sunshine!}

BUT, I do have lots of new lovelies that I want to share,
once I find time to take some photos. :)

In the meantime, I've been thinking about how to improve my shop,
and I've been feeling the need to simplify.
So, I've put some of the lovelies in my shop on SALE!

I hope you'll stop by and shop the sale,
and I can't wait to show you what I've been working on!

It's Friday, and I've got lots to do...
The Sweetheart has family visiting from out of town,

I'm trying to finish up bridal shower gifts,
pretties for the shop...
{it's been so cloudy here, I haven't had a chance to
take any product photos to show you...sad.}
So I'll be pretty busy this weekend!

It is a holiday weekend {happy 4th!},
so I thought I'd share a special discount code...

{happenings}

{from here}

I won't lie and say that my life is always perfect,
but I am so blessed

Life has been kind of crazy lately, though...

We're getting married in less than 3 1/2 months.
I am absolutely excited and I can't wait,
but I also have a LOT to get done before then.
I started making lists this week, and it's a tad overwhelming...
Fortunately, I have a lot of help if I need it!

Also, the Sweetheart got a new job!
I am beyond proud of him...I may be biased,
but he is awesome at what he does. :)
We were not expecting this at all, and he wasn't looking for a job.
But, he'll be getting a great paycheck, good benefits, etc.
which is definitely a blessing.

But, along with this new job comes more new changes.
New schedules, figuring out where we'll live, and so on.
It will all work out...I'm just not entirely sure how.

I've also posted about that craft fair that's
happening two weeks after we get married...
I'm so excited for the opportunity, but I am SO overwhelmed
with all that I need to get done!
My goal is to have everything for the craft fair done
by September 1st. That will take a lot of work.
We shall see...

So, that's a bit of what's going on in my life.
But most of all, I want to live everyday to the fullest,
no matter what that day holds.

Have a lovely Wednesday!

{petunia blooms} some of my favorites!

As many of you know, I opened my little shop, Petunia Blooms, last September.
This was a new start for me. A move from selling cards & stationery to selling things I've sewn.

I loved making cards, and I still make them for myself and others occasionally.
But sewing? Is so much more of a passion for me.
Maybe it's the season of life I'm in, maybe I just got bored...
but I love sewing things and then sharing them with others.
I feel so privileged that this is my job. It's amazing!

That being said, I love every single thing I put into my shop.
I just wanted to take a minute today to share some of my favorites with you...

blooms. berry + navy stripe

petite petals hair clips. pink floral + summer picnic

Want to know a secret?
Sometimes I make doubles of things just so
I can keep one for myself...I can't resist!

See something you like? Use the discount code
FAVORITE15
for 15% off your next order!
{good through Sunday night}

What is your favorite? I'd love to hear about it!

Happy Thursday to you!

{custom order} a lovely headband!

I absolutely love when I get the chance to work on custom orders!
This particular headband was requested by my cousin.
She's graduating {highschool} this year, and wanted something special to wear for her ceremony.

She gave me a few guidelines/ideas, but mostly left things up to me.
I ended up with a ribbon-wrapped headband,
a gorgeous red rosette, and a little lace for some extra drama.
I love how it turned out, and so did she!

If you'd like a headband {or something else}
custom-made for you, just let me know!
Or, check out the shop...
This week only, take 10% off your purchase
with the discount code HEADBAND1
{expires Friday, so hurry!}

all ruffled up.

First of all, many thanks to all of you who helped me
brainstorm a name for this pretty new clutch!
I so appreciate that. :)

Of course, I only could choose one name...
and I kept going back to Sarah's "all ruffled up and ready to go out!"
{Sarah, email me your address & I'll mail you a little something.}

SO, I'm proud to introduce the all ruffled up. line of clutches at Petunia Blooms!
Enjoy. :)

my "creative process"

I snapped these photos yesterday while I was working...
just wanted to share a little of my "creative process" with you.

Often when I sew, I take the assembly line approach.
I get annoyed if I'm constantly cutting, then sewing, then ironing, etc.
So I'll generally get all my fabrics+zippers laid out,
and decide what style pouch/clutch I'll be making.

Yesterday I was working on a new design {to be shared soon!},
so I only cut+sewed one. You know, just to make sure it
would turn out the way it did in my head.

And now that I know it is a design I want to make,
I'll be cutting out lots of different pieces,
ironing interfacing,
sewing ruffles,
etc.

And {hopefully} new lovely things will be
making an appearance in the shop very soon!

Tell me, what does your creative process
look like from day to day?

*****

I'm so enjoying the feedback from the reader's survey I posted yesterday.
If you haven't taken a minute to share, would you consider doing that?
Thanks so much!
